The Mississippi Museums Association is a great place to begin your visit to hundreds of art, history and science museums in Mississippi. Mississippi museums collect and care for objects of cultural, artistic, scientific or historical interest and make their collections or related exhibits available for public viewing. The purpose of the Mississippi Museums Association is to promote professional communication between all types of museums, public and private, within the State of Mississippi and to promote a statewide public awareness of the value of museums as educational and research institutions at the local, county, regional and state levels. Founded in 1976 by a group of museum professionals, MMA is governed by a seven-person board of volunteers who represent various museums across the state. An annual meeting is held each year.
